What is Unseen

$2,500.00

Inspired by the neglected gardens at Gibraltar, a crumbling 19th century estate in Wilmington, DE. The painting depicts the Reflection Pool nestled in the rich and verdant foliage. While the water's surface is still and glass-like, one notices the lone water lily that blooms, suggesting the murky, silty depths below. Metaphorically the viewer can be reminded of the lily symbolism: enlightenment, rebirth and purity. These beautiful flowers rise from the muddy depths of ponds, the blooms close at night, and could also represent new beginnings or resurrection.

The Gibraltar estate is undergoing modest renovations by Preservation Delaware. Plein air and studio paintings by the artist are linked to interests in depicted neglected and forgotten places.

The framed, 24 x 36" oil on canvas painting is signed by the artist in the lower left. Price includes shipping in the US.
